AFI Silverdocs is an annual international documentary film festival which takes place in Silver Spring, MD each summer.  KUBE is working pro bono to design the Cinema Lounge, the main gathering space for filmmakers and VIPs.  An existing restaurant space will be transformed into a hip, modern environment, with a central bar and lounge, cyber-cafe, viewing room, and dance club.  As this is a temporary installation for the week of the festival, the goal was to design a series of interventions that attach to the space only minimally.  A variety of frames will be fabricated including informational kiosks that either sit on the floor or are suspended from the ceiling, and booths in the dance club designed as framed stage sets, with colored LED lighting to increase theatricality.  All material, furniture and light fixtures will be donated. KUBE will assist with construction along with a group of enthusiastic volunteers.
