Washington. DC

Our client purchased the unit next door so that she could expand her living space and host visiting family and friends. Our goal was to create a new space that is open, bright, and feels like an escape from the city – her own private oasis. To accomplish this we introduced bright colors, including sky blue, sunset yellow, and red. Most interior walls were removed in order to bring light throughout the space. The blue kitchen wall faces 5 sliding doors of gradating blue tones that separate the living area from the bedroom/den space. Tall storage cabinets made of ash wood line a third wall, bringing in warmth and lightness. Areas for her growing collection of plants were created along the window wall, bringing nature into the composition.
