WASHINGTON DC

This basement renovation in NE Washington, DC, creates a modern entertainment area in an underutilized part of the house, increasing the overall living space in the narrow rowhouse. The entire floor will be reconfigured, with the mechanical equipment and laundry room relocated to the front, where there is no natural light, and a full wall of glass along the back facade, illuminating the new hangout space. A TV, minibar and gas fireplace will be incorporated into a wall of custom cabinetry, and the new staircase from first floor will be steel and lightweight. Colored LED will highlight the space, giving it a “nightclub” vibe after dark. Since our clients use their bikes everyday, there is bike “parking” near the rear entry, with built-in storage for gear. On the first floor, a new enlarged kitchen incorporates the “dogleg” portion of the site, and opens up to the living/dining room, with a new coat closet providing some privacy from view.
