This competition entry was designed and developed by Richard Loosle with Chris Mechaley and Warren Chao. CONCEPT The Shrine and Parish Church of Our Lady of Guadelupe is conceived of as a mantel enveloping and protecting the congregation within. Interior and exterior spaces are linked by a processional path which follows the Stations of the Cross, passes the threshold into the assembly hall, links the baptistry with the altar, and symbolically links the image of Our Lady to the refuge of the lower level.

SITE STRATEGY
The structure is located on the north west corner of the site. The eastern elevation offers protection from the western winds and storms, while the eastern side opens up to a gathering and outdoor worship space beyond. Parking lays to the south and remains heavily landscaped. Future expansion, to include classrooms, administration and assembly hall, will further define the outdoor rooms.

CONSTRUCTION
The the Parish Church structure is concrete. Floor finishes include polished concrete, slate, and wood. The Shrine is constructed with a steel frame wrapped by translucent curtain wall.
